<description>Hi, I just happened across this article while reading an article here recently linked on slashdot. Interesting site and good articles.

If you like party shuffle, I suspect you will *really* like 2 separate but similar ideas/programs.

First is Music IP Mixer. (http://www.musicip.com)

This little app, once you&#039;ve allowed to analyze your library (the time which unfortunately increases in proportion to the size of it), creates some of the coolest &#039;mixes&#039; ever. There are several adjustable perameters that can be tweaked to dial it to your preferences as well. And it works with slimserver and several other UPNP streaming systems.

This MIP Mixer uses acoustical analysis to create playlists (of the size of your choosing) of related tracks. Musically rated playlists. Think about that for a bit.

The other thing I would like to suggest is, Mediamonkey (http://www.mediamonkey.com) + a script known as ScrobblerDJ (http://mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7961). Mediamonkey is a music library manager/player much like itunes, altho much more powerful and flexible. ScrobblerDJ is a VBScript for Mediamonkey which performs a similar function as itunes party shuffle, but enqueues tracks from your library based on related music recommendations from Last.FM (http://www.last.fm).

Together, MM + ScrobblerDJ + Last.FM can infinitely play related (by last.fm) tracks.

Now, I must disclose that the scrobblerdj script development has hit a stall while the guy who developed it has move to a new country for a new job. The script as it stands is still a wonderful piece of work that is constantly opening up my library for me to hear great stuff.

There is even a script to access the MIP Mixer via Mediamonkey that is based off the scrobblerdj.

Both of these systems provide similar end results, but achieve them thru completely different means.

Perhaps you may find either or both an enjoyable alternative to itunes.</description>
