Maybe online photo storage will be the next killer app for massive storage systems. But the excellent Good Morning Silicon Valley blog suggests that the US Government’s desire for 7×24 surveillance of its citizens could be The One.

Here’s a rare bit of GMSV investment advice: Go long on storage — because if this government keeps extending the monitoring of its citizens’ activities, it’s going to run out of places to stash the harvest. And apparently there is no intrusion so outrageous that it cannot be justified by wrapping it up in fear of kiddie porn or, if the ante needs to be upped, terrorism.

Massive storage will be just as important as broadband and microprocessors. It is just as susceptible to misuse as well.

And for those outraged over Yahoo’s busting of a Chinese dissident, how do you feel about this?
