Walked over to the Sunset trail and thence up to Airport Mesa. This view is looking south from the east side of the mesa.
This is my favorite time of year due to the monsoon – rainy season – clouds. Probably have a thunderstorm later today. And yes, there’s an airport on top of the mesa.
Did the same trip (Sunset tr; then Airport loop) two months ago. Lovely but a bit short. Did you also add in Table top trail?
A nicer hike in the same area was Boynton canyon in the evening. Saw 5 deer on the trail.
I walked from home to Sunset Trail and skipped Tabletop – I’ve done it before – and just ambled along. Boynton Canyon is very nice – the Enchantment happy hour is one of the my favorites – but I prefer loop trails. Mescal to Boynton to Dead Man to Long Canyon is good.
One thing to be aware of: there’s a bear in Boynton Canyon and some idiot has been feeding it. An incident waiting to happen for some unlucky hiker.
